bhangra classes

Bhangra is more than just a dance; it is a living legacy that has evolved from the fields of Punjab to the global spotlight. At PVO, we honor these ancient roots while bringing a "New Era" energy to the stage, blending traditional storytelling with modern performance standards.

  • Traditional Bhangra: This is the high-energy, iconic style that uses the "Dhammal" (the heavy jump). It was originally a harvest dance performed by farmers to celebrate the Vaisakhi season.

  • Luddi: A dance of victory and celebration. It features relaxed body movements and a distinct finger-clicking rhythm. It’s famous for its "snake-like" head and shoulder movements.

  • Malwai Giddha: Unlike the standard Giddha (performed by women), Malwai Giddha is performed by men from the Malwa region. It is unique because it uses instruments like the Sarangi, Chimta, and Tumbi right on the dance floor.

  • Sammi: Traditionally a women’s dance from the tribal areas of Punjab (Sandhalbar). It is very graceful and often involves a specific clapping pattern called "Thapri."

gidha classes

Giddha is more than a dance; it is a living history of Punjab’s heritage. At PVO, we honor these ancient roots by teaching the technical "Nakhra" (flair) and the traditional art of the Boli, ensuring that the strength and storytelling of the past own the modern stage.
  • Traditional Giddha (The Foundation): This is the classic circle formation. It is defined by its spontaneity and the "Ghera" (circle). One person leads with a Boli (lyric), the Dholki (drum) hits a fast beat, and two dancers enter the center to perform high-speed, synchronized steps.
  • Luddi (Female Variation): While men perform Luddi as a dance of victory, the female version is performed at weddings and celebrations. It is incredibly playful, featuring "wave-like" body movements and a focus on facial expressions and "Nakhra" (flair).
  • Bhangra (Female Variation): Who says the "Bhangra" is only for the boys? At PVO, we celebrate the strength of our female dancers through high-impact Bhangra training that focuses on stamina, sharp execution, and stage presence.
